Science

We have been looking at changes throughout the year during different seasons and spent time creating artwork and exploring weather in our local area.

You will find information about the year group expectations for Year 2 on the curriculum overview page as well as useful information about the curriculum, phonics and mental maths. The aim of this class page is to update it regularly with activities and events the children in Year 2 have been doing.

We look forward to sharing some fun and excitement with you throughout the year...

Quick Information for Parents/Carers

PE Kit - Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure pupils have their PE kit in school on those days. It is best to leave it in school, so it is always there. PE Kits consist of the coloured t-shirt, black or navy sports shorts and trainers with good ankle support. Staff cannot tape children's earrings so please don't send children into school wearing earrings on PE days. Kits will be sent home if they need washing or at the end of a half term.

Homework - Homework will be set on a Tuesday to be returned the following Monday. Pupils will have 2 homework folders and will be swapping between them to give adults in school enough time to check through homework. If your child is struggling with the activities, please help them and if you are still struggling, please contact Mr. Buckley on Class Dojo.

Book Bags - Children need to send in their reading book every day. There may be times we get to read with pupils during the day and bookbags ensure children always have their reading books in school. We will also use them to send any letters home so please check them regularly.

Forest Minibeasts

As part of science, we've been building minibeasts with clay. We then built microhabitats for them and explained why certain parts of the microhabitat were suitable for the minibeasts we created. With the beautiful weather, we have loved spending time outdoors!

Rev. Sue Eucharist Visit

Rev. Sue visited Year 2 to answer some of the questions the children had about taking communion and the Eucharist service, specifically around Easter time. We looked at the bread and the wine and asked why these two things are part of the service.

Prayer Walk

As part of our spirituality and RE we went on a prayer walk around Fairy Glen. It was lovely to experience nature at a more relaxed state, connecting with God's incredible world and developing spiritually as members of the Christian community.

DT - Pasta Salad

We really enjoyed looking at healthy foods for our DT topic. It was great to practise the skills of cutting, grating and peeling before making our own pasta salad.

Science - Planting

Over the past couple of weeks we have been looking at how seeds are dispersed. It has been great to see how the different types of seeds travel to start growing in new places.

World Book Day

The Friends of All Saints put on an excellent event and Year 2 enjoyed looking at all of the wonderful books that had been donated. We were all so excited to read.

Author Visit

As part of World Book Day celebrations, the children were treated to a visit from Sean Perkins. He has written his own books based on Oscar and Ben and enjoyed talking to the children about their dreams and his new book.

Art - Painting Skylines

Children in Year 2 spent the afternoon creating silhouette artwork. We really enjoyed getting the paints out and using our own personal sketchbooks to showcase our incredible painting techniques.

First Forest Session

Year 2 children really enjoyed getting back down to the forest. After two weeks of getting used to the new routines, it was great for us to get out and about in the forest where we had chance to play some team games and practise those fundamental movement skills through play!

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

A very warm welcome to Year 3 - Your children's teachers are Mrs Glover and Mrs Waine. We are extremely lucky to have extra help and support from Mrs MacFarlin, Mrs Lee, Mrs McKinley, Mrs Brannon and Mrs Bimson.

In the mornings the children focus on all aspects of English and Maths, with the foundation subjects being covered in the afternoons. Our theme this term is 'There's no place like home', where the children will be learning about local history and geography.

We make great use of our outdoor space at All Saints' and try to take the children out each day to complete the 'Mile-a-Day.' on our all weather running track.

Our homework (Maths and spelling) is given out on Monday and should be returned by the following Monday. The children will be tested on their spellings each week.  We base the Maths homework on our previous classwork, so the children should find it straightforward. Please let us know if this is not the case.

We greatly encourage the children to read for 15 to 20 minutes per day. Please comment and sign your child's reading record and send it into school each day.

Our PE days this term are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure labelled PE kits are in school bags.

Please keep checking in as we will add to our class page as we progress through the year.

Kind Wishes,

Mrs Glover and Mrs Waine.

Glockenspiels

Year 3 have been practising the glockenspiels to go along with our recorder. It is starting to sound excellent!
